One of the amazing things about Malaysia is that within the span of a few days, you can experience the culture of Southeast Asian cities, the intensely regional food differences, odd little pockets of colonial European history, hiking through mountains and highlands, losing yourself to island life (and the “island time” that comes with it,) and then escape all of it by trekking deep into one of the oldest jungles in the world: The Taman Negara.
“Smells like hell, tastes like heaven” is how many locals describe this pungent fruit. A specialty in Southeast Asia, this king of fruits is essential to try in the region (just follow the smell,) even as the locals all look on to see how you’ll react to the taste.
